Not only famous for having savanna, hills, or beaches destination, Sumba also has a beautiful waterfall and is still hidden. Not many people who successfully reached this waterfall. Hidden locations, imperfect road conditions, ravines, valleys, hot weather, and perfect physical conditions for walking in long distances are challenges that visitors must face before reaching this waterfall.

This waterfall called Tanggedu. The visitors named this waterfall "The East Sumba Grand Canyon". Another visitor called "The Twin Canyon".

This waterfall is in Tanggedu Village (Mondu Village area), Kanatang Subdistrict, East Sumba District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. This waterfall is 45 km from Waingapu City, East Sumba.

Tanggedu waterfall flows from low cliffs. However, this waterfall is complemented by rocky cliffs and stunning water currents. This waterfall is formed by small rivers that merge into one. Some rocks also appear to have been eroded by water for a long time. This creates a unique structure, looks terraced and formed from a variety of rock fractures.

The beauty of Tanggedu Waterfalls is on the cliffs of rocks that flank the flow of clear and winding water. The natural and unique relief on the rock cliffs becomes an amazing one. The water is clear and turquoise blue.

Tanggedu waterfall is like a natural spa complex. White rocks mingle with turquoise blue water, fallen trees into bridges connecting large rocks with other large rocks, and tiny alcoves in the rocks have created a unique atmosphere.

The small alcoves in the rocks are filled with water and transform into natural little pools. Inside these natural pools, visitors can soak while enjoying the scenery.

Nature around this waterfall is also still very natural. On the cliffs and hills there are trees with green or brown leaves that alternate as the seasons change.

How to Go to Tanggedu Waterfall

The journey starts from Waingapu City in East Sumba by car. Visitors will travel as far as 45 km.

Along the way visitors will be able to see the scenery of typical hills of East Sumba with livestock that roam freely in the meadow.

The road to Tanggedu is winding and some have not been covered by asphalt. Before arriving in Tenggedu Village, visitors will pass the Mondu Village and Kampung Adat Prainatang which is in the middle of the hills.

After parking the vehicle near the yard of the house of the citizens, visitors must do trekking by going through the fields of local residents.

Tanggedu waterfall is located between the rocky cliffs, so visitors should be more careful when down the cliff.

Suggestions

01. Come during the dry season. If it rains, which route will be passed by visitors will become very heavy and dangerous. In addition, during rain or rainy season, the flow of the waterfall will be very heavy so it will be dangerous to swim in it. In the dry season, this waterfall will be safer and will show the true beauty.

02. During the dry season, the weather will be very hot, so bring sunblock or tanning oil and hat.
Use comfortable, strong, and anti-skid footwear. Remember that visitors should do trekking on a fairly difficult path.

03. Bring food and drinks from Waingapu Town as supplies if visitors do not find an open stall at the entrance to the waterfall.

04. Depart from Waingapu Town in the morning. Thus, visitors will have enough time to explore the location of this waterfall.

05. Bring a garbage bag. Do not litter.

06. Take care of your fitness. Remember that visitors have to do quite heavy trekking.

07. Bring extra clothes. Also, do not forget to bring a camera.

08. If available, hire a local guide service and a local driver. Thus, the journey will be safer and easier.

09. Stay cautious because nature is unpredictable. Safety is the main thing.

The road conditions to this location are winding and not good enough. However the scenery during the trip is one amazing thing.
